The Ministry of Energy collaborated with the Thai-Sino Association of Science and Technology (TSAST), the Council for the Promotion of International Trade Shanghai (CCPIT) and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Innovation Cooperation Center Bangkok (CAS-ICCB), which is the host, to launch the “2023 Green Technology Expo” at Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre (BITEC). The 2023 Green Technology Expo is organized to align with Thailand’s development strategy under the Bio-Circular-Green Economy (BCG Economy) and China’s “Belt and Road Initiative” in order to strengthen ties between the two countries and redefine the “China-Thailand : One Family” synergetic partnership for sustainability. It is expected that the proactive action and collaborative development frameworks covering multiple aspects such as tech exhibitions, knowledge sharing, interactions and convergences will play a key role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions in line with the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The green tech expo also aims to push Thailand as a manufacturing hub for electric vehicles, in which the electric vehicle industry is one of the core green technologies in order to create a better world for future generations.

The 2023 Green Technology Expo mainly showcases green technologies with a focus on raising awareness about reducing global warming and greenhouse gas emissions. The event also highlights the vision and innovative solutions to achieve carbon neutrality in compliance with the United Nations’ sustainable development policy, including guidelines and action plans of signatory countries in tackling climate change. Hopefully, the launch of the tech expo and sharing of green technology knowledge can efficiently deal with challenges facing humans and all lives on earth in order to identify the root cause of the global warming problem. In addition, the event supports Thailand’s ambitious target to become a hub for next-generation car models and promote development of organizations and businesses that are friendly to the environment in order to develop a better world with a smart future for the next generation.

Dr. Veerapat Kiatfuengfoo, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, said natural resources have been largely used in production and manufacturing in the industrial and agricultural sectors to enhance social and economic development after the industrial revolution, especially over the past decades. The post-industrial development has taken a toll on the environment. It has led to rapid urbanization, deforestation, environmental degradation, accumulated Greenhouse Gas (GHG) that aggravate the impact on the environment. It eventually resulted in the cyclical global warming problem that has dealt a potential blow to the manufacturing sector across industries, including the agricultural and service sectors. The global warming problem also affects our lives. We are facing the same challenges and all stakeholders in society need to cooperate to tackle the environmental problem.

Thailand is a signatory to the Paris Agreement on climate change and made a ratification at the international conference on the global climate change in Paris with a goal to reduce Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions by 20-25% by 2030 in order to transition to a Low Carbon Society. Thailand also launched taxation measures, investment incentives, promotional programs for automakers and end users to enhance development and adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) as the country set its sight to become the manufacturing hub for electric vehicles in the region.

The Ministry of Energy has renewable and alternative energy development plans with the CO2 emissions per unit of electricity generation targeted to be halved by 2037. The launch of the “2023 Green Technology Expo” will help maximize development of future-focused technologies and innovations that are essential to shaping the future in the next decade. The Ministry of Energy is also working in collaboration with the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) and PTT to move forward with the Next Generation Automobile development policy that will define the direction of business development in the future.

Dr. Pichai Sonchaeng, Secretary-General of the Thai-Sino Association of Science and Technology (TSAST), said the association considers that solving the global warming problem requires collective cooperation from all stakeholders and agencies. It needs to have a thorough knowledge on science and technology as well as innovation development in order to efficiently transform the manufacturing and production processes throughout the supply chains in the industrial, agricultural and service sectors. The 2023 Green Technology Expo aims to enhance the development and adoption of advanced technologies and innovations. The forward-looking tech expo serves as a thought-provoking stage where owners, developers and innovators of advanced technologies and tech-driven innovations as well as high-profile business leaders, investors, entrepreneurs and researchers, including general people with an enthusiasm for future-forward technologies, meet and share their knowledge and experiences and pitch new ideas on green technology development. The tech expo is expected to help promote tech knowledge and foster technological innovations in order to effectively solve the problems and meet the needs of all people taking part in the business matching and technology matching sessions. The association hopes that the green technology expo will play a key role in developing businesses that align with Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the United Nations and apply the country’s BCG Economic Model for sustainability.
